Hello and welcome to the first blog on my brand new website!
This page is dedicated to all new translators looking for their first assignment, as well as those who are preparing to become translators or thinking about embracing this great career choice.
I have been a translator for more than 20 years and my aim is to help newcomers speed up their success. There might be a lot of information available on the Internet, but I find that people still value hearing about personal journeys and receiving practical advice from someone with similar experience to theirs.
Once I was stopped outside a supermarket by a lady who had been trying to get in touch with me but had lost my contact details. More recently, a language student overheard me on the train talking about my book and approached me with lots of questions about how to become a translator. This made me realise that there are people out there who could learn from my experience.
My own beginning was slow and often felt like a struggle and that was partly because I didn’t have the support of trusted professionals and didn’t know what to expect. I would have loved to find someone who could have shared their experience. The most difficult aspect was the feeling of isolation and not knowing whether I was on the right track in my search for jobs or even in my methods of working. On some days, just a bit of reassurance would have made all the difference.
This is the reason I have written my book 'How to become a successful freelance translator'. It is packed with advice, ideas and top tips which will enable you to take action from day one and help you reach your goal of earning an income from home faster.
So I would encourage you to get started as soon as possible. Let me know through my contact page how you are getting on and look out for more comments and advice from me here.
I wish you an enjoyable and exciting journey!
